Speaker Spotlight

Ashley Weber – Naturopathic Doctor
“Growing up, I was a pretty sick kid. I had asthma, allergies, frequent colds, and I was constantly getting bronchitis or pneumonia. Every time I went to the doctor I left with the same treatment plan: a round of antibiotics. Deep down I knew that there had to be more to it than this – why did I keep getting sick, and why wasn’t anyone trying to prevent me from getting sick the next time?

As I neared the end of University, I found myself at a crossroads. I knew I wanted to continue my studies with a focus on health, but I wasn’t sure in what capacity. I was still searching for my passion. After researching a slew of options, I had an “aha” moment when I learned about Naturopathic Medicine and how perfectly it fit with my morals and values. This is how I could figure out the ‘why’ and help others prevent disease. It was a natural fit, and I’ve never looked back. ”

Shannon Richter – Registered Dietitian Loblaw

Is a Registered Dietitian with the College of Dietitians of Ontario and a member of Dietitians of Canada. She graduated with a Master of Science in Foods and Nutrition from the University of Western Ontario and earned her Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Nutrition from the University of Guelph. Shannon has always shown an enthusiasm and passion towards food and nutrition, and can often be found trying out new recipes in her kitchen or catching up on her favorite cooking shows.

Hayley Mullins – Founder SleepBelt

“When my daughter was born, she was most calm and peaceful when cuddled on my chest, skin-to-skin. While the bonding was amazing, constantly holding her in that same position would lock my hands and arms in place. I tried various slings to free my hands, but I found most of them were too complicated or took too long to put on (seconds can feel like hours when you’ve got a crying newborn). My other challenge was the transfer – trying to seamlessly move my sleeping baby from the wrap or sling to her crib was impossible. Every time she’d wake up crying, and I’d be back at square one with her cuddled on my chest, skin-to-skin, my hands locked in that same position.

One morning, I had a big scare while trying to multitask (read: using my phone while skin-to-skin); my daughter rolled off my chest, onto the floor… thank goodness she was okay. After a few panicked phone calls, and a number of tears, I took to the internet and realized that I was not alone – lots of babies have fallen off parent’s chests…and not everyone can admit it!

Not long after the guilt wore off, SleepBelt was born.”

Faye Moxam and Kat Armstrong – Founder This Little Piggy

Whether it’s your first or third, we promise that our offerings are right on the money and ignore those unnecessary trinkets that collect dust in your nursery. With everything from bath time essentials to a dad’s only diaper bag, we know we’ll give you what you need in the first two years to take you through.

 Kate Bullock, RMT

“I was always interested in ways I could help and give back to my community, and for me, that meant going in to a health care field. I decided on massage therapy because I wanted to help people but not be in a hospital causing pain because it helped on a doctor’s order. I wanted to make people feel safe, feel good, and improve their health with a smile on their face. As I finished my schooling, I began to think about what else I wanted to focus on, and then my best friend became pregnant.

From there I took every course I could find, including working with infants and children, doula training, and pregnancy massage. I also took courses on cranial sacral therapy and reiki to help my mums and their little ones with feeling great. I like to integrate the variety of tools in my tool box to create overall health and happiness in my clients, and to help families feel comfortable with safe and nurturing touch for their babies and children.”
